Buried somewhere in the body of helpful newcomers is a traitor, an unsuspected member of the Klan. Action and adventure galore as good vs evil, and romance blooms among trouble and strife.

Start with an iron mine, the miners and owners, then throw in the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), add union organizers, a police constable siding with the KKK, and a U.S. Marshall. If that’s not enough, add a little romance for several characters, some tar and feathers and a mayoral election with candidates from all sides. You just know it’s going to end in a big gun fight and a surprise ending. While Duane Schwartz first book Cobb’s Landing is told using a series of flashbacks, this one doesn’t. Duane has done it again... very interesting, intrigueing book. You can't put this one down!
this book is a interesting read. Lots of characters. Tough to keep them all straight. About 3/4 of the way in the book, the story gets a bit slow and convoluted.
Nevertheless, i enjoyed the book quite a bit for someone who doesnt read storys like this. Doc, Newton and Dexter Connors are all great characters you will root for. The struggle for power kept me interested. Editing was lacking.
I have always enjoyed western stories though in recent years many seem to me to be badly written and the themes are reminiscent of those of the famous authors of the past. Calumet came as a surprise, KKK at the iron mines was a new one on me and the hero a US Marshal, in the days when he could decide to take up a problem and did not have to ask for permission to act. The story flows well and the characters seem genuine, I was happy to read it from beginning to end. I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an adventure story to get your teeth into. Mr Schwartz you have my vote.
